Making Playdough is always fun but with extra added delight when Kool-Aid is involved. This activity brings sensory to a whole different level involving smell and touch. The ingredients are always a guesstimate based on your mixture but here it is:
1-1 1/4 cups Flour
1/4 cup Salt
1-2 Tablespoons Oil
1 cup warm Water
1 Kool-Aid packet
Mix the dry ingredients together then add the oil and water. Then play and smell away!
This is fun to do in individual, family or group sessions as you can always make more than one batch and each person have a different Kool-Aid flavor! Keep it in a ziploc bag or container and it’ll last up to a few months.
Playdough is a great coping skill and calming activity for younger kids. It can be used same as a stress ball in a bag or in a child’s hands.
I also often use Playdough as an activity to increase emotional expressiveness and feelings identification. I have laminated blank faces that we add feelings to using Playdough or make animals out of the Playdough that have different feelings.
Once you make Kool-Aid Playdough you’ll never go back to using food coloring to make it!
